The Louvre Museum in Paris, France

If you go to Paris, you must visit the Louvre Museum, or Musee de Louvre in French, which is the world's largest art museum. The Louvre was originally built as a fortress for Philip Augustus in 1190 but was reconstructed into a royal palace by Pierre Lescot, Louis Le Vau, and Claude Perrault on August 10, 1793. In 2018, it received 10.2 million visitors, which was ranked 1st nationally and 1st globally. The museum has a total of 537 paintings. You can read more about the history of the Louvre here.

Review: The museum is extremely huge and there is no way you can conquer this place in one day. I was exhausted after a few hours here and my wife and I barely saw a quarter of it. It's the most visited art museum in the world for a reason and if you go to Paris and miss this place, then you haven't seen Paris.

According to the site walksofitaly.com, here are the top 13 paintings and sculptures that you must see at the Louvre:

1. The Winged Victory of Samothrace
2. Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss
3. The Venus de Milo
4. The Raft of the Medusa
5. Liberty Leading the People
6. The Coronation of Napolean
7. Sleeping Hermaproditus
8. Hammurabi's Code
9. I.M. Pei's Pyramid
10. The Lamassu
11. The Dying Slave and the Rebellious Slave
12. Grand Odalisque by Ingres
13. The Mona Lisa

Cost: 9 Euros. If you head there after 6:00pm on a Wednesday or a Friday, then the cost is reduced to 6 euros and the museum is open until 9:45pm. The entrance is free for people under 26 on Friday evenings. On Bastille Day (July 14), and the first Sunday of each month, entrance is free for everyone, all day.

Address: Rue de Rivoli. 75001, Paris, France
